A little less than 9 hours left. Above: MissLee late entry for Conceptualist.com design contest.

And for a description? Get ready for the best reading you gonna do today.

It was bound to happen. Reading the blog, taking in the general vibe, the ideas, the perspective…at some point you arrive at a turn of a phrase or an image and it strikes a chord; everything falls into place and your springboard is there and your kinetic energy levels go into high gear. Such was the case with Lala. Sure, I’m a ‘dog person’ so I’m automatically drawn but this was the photo that did it for me

The purity of focus, the energy level, the unwavering certainty that whatever she was going after was entirely attainable; whatever her concept was, she was going after it with gusto.

We are all fundamentally the same; motivated by need, desire or instinct. Our ears prick up at the sound of a new enterprise, a new idea or a way to make our lives or the lives of our ‘pack’ better. As the parallels continued to reveal themselves, Lala represented the very best of what conceptualizing is about when (and it’s a big ‘when’) that concept is put into action. It was her dynamic energy that led to the nucleus of the logo; jumping over and above the masses, not in the least concerned about the possibility of failure and going full bore with complete confidence, determination and enthusiasm!

As that nucleus thrived, the surrounding idea took shape. For me, conceptualization can entail daydreaming, visualizing, making mental connections and a little prognostication. The process is a joy and I wanted to reflect that sense of optimism and fun and above all I wanted to convey the unlimited potential that exists from exploring an idea and taking an active role in it’s evolution.

It is a pleasure to participate in this contest and I am always open to feedback. )

Editor’s Perspective: The Unusual Benefits of Innovation

Sahar Sarid, owner of the blog Conceptualist.com, posted a logo contest in the SitePoint Contests last week with a prize value of $2,500.

But here’s the thing — he’s not really buying a logo. He’s buying a story. Sahar says so himself:

“Each logo must include a description of how you came up with it, what went through your mind when designing it. I want a story to go with it. I want to understand the small elements that make it powerful…”

By offering $2,500 for a logo, Sahar’s created a story about the contest itself, and generated a buzz that attracts far more than the usual number of submissions.

He’s also creating a story for the future of the logo: “This is the logo I paid $2,500 for in SitePoint Contests.” And of course, Sahar has attracted a ton of SitePoint members to his web site.

What fantastic value Sahar’s getting for his money. And you thought it was just a logo contest!

I’m not saying that Sahar has anything other than a logo design in mind. What I am saying is that the approach we take to achieving our goals can generate significant benefits — that may be unusual or unexpected — for us.

I must say the contest is a blast, none of it was planned in advance, things just happened. The contest brought the best of so many people. what started as a simple design contest became to be an internal quest for so many participating artists, and myself. I want to thank two artists in the contests that made it an experience I will never forget, Leahzero and Symbolic. Both are not just amazing artists but warm kind hearted individuals. I have no doubt both will make it to the top at whatever they put your minds to.
There were too many other great artists to start listing here one by one. If you want a look at current works click here. Be sure to click on works to read the stories behind them both those “in consideration” and many that aren’t.
Have a great weekend!
