At 8.00am on Tuesday 12th August 2008 we will have a systems outage lasting for about 45 minutes when we will be deploying a software upgrade. During this time Online Service and EPP will be unavailable. The Automaton will not process email requests, but they will be received and queued for processing when it restarts. All other Nominet systems will continue to work as normal during this period.

On Sunday 17 August 2008 between 11:00 and 15:00 we will be performing an upgrade to a core router. The following services will be unavailable for approximately one hour at some point during this period: Automaton, DAC, WHOIS, EPP, Online Service. All emails to the Automaton will be queued on an external server and processed when the Automaton comes back online. We apologise for any inconvenience this will cause.

We periodically introduce new software releases as part of our rolling program of continuous service improvement. These releases almost always involve the modification of objects within our database. During yesterdays release an object in the registry database that DAC and WHOIS rely on underwent a change that rendered those services unavailable for approximately 12 minutes.We do test our software releases rigorously prior to deploying them, but there are many dependencies within the database. Unfortunately, this time we missed the fact that the changes made during the release would affect DAC and WHOIS. As a result of this outage we are introducing changes that will alert us to these dependencies during the development phase.We apologise for the inconvenience caused by the interruption to service yesterday.

We apologise for an unplanned outage on the WHOIS between 0857 and 0909 today, Tuesday 29 July 2008. This occurred during a previously announced upgrade to our systems which provides new functionality, particularly for the DRS.We did test this new software release thoroughly before the upgrade, but did not expect any downtime on the WHOIS or DAC. We will investigate the cause of this outage and report our results when we find them.

At 9.00am on Sunday 20 July 2008 we will have a systems outage lasting for around 2 hours when we will be deploying a software upgrade. During this time Online Services, EPP and DAC will be unavailable and no domain name cancellations will be processed. The Automaton will not process email requests during this period but will receive and queue requests for processing when it restarts. Our WHOIS service will be unaffected and continue to work normally during this period.

At 9.00am on Monday 7 July 2008 we will have a systems outage lasting for about an hour when we will be deploying a software upgrade in preparation for ENUM. During this time the EPP testbed will be unavailable. The live EPP service is considered to be at risk during this time but we are not expecting an outage. All other Nominet systems will continue to work as normal during this period.

We have completed the systems maintenance work scheduled for the morning of 25 June 2008. We are sorry that it took us longer than expected to complete this work. EPP and the Automaton were both available by 8:15am. Online Service was available by 8:30am.
